One Direction: While they may be singing contest runners-up, One Direction isn’t taking a back seat on tour dates or in the charts. This boy band sensation has taken both teens and adults around the world by storm, and they’ve only just begun. With one hit record under their belts (and one in the works) and sold out tour dates all over the planet, fans around the world are tearing their hair out over this sensational group of boys that is revitalizing the boy band genre.

The lads of One Direction – Zayn, Liam, Louis, Niall, and Harry – first met while individually auditioning for X-Factor in the UK. After failing to make the cut as solo acts, it was suggested that they audition as a group and proceeded to blow the judges away. While the group didn’t end up in 1st place they did enthrall Simon Cowell, who signed the young men to his label and broke them in with tour dates for X-Factor. With a great group dynamic already established, One Direction released their debut album, Up All Night, which featured the #1 single “What Makes You Beautiful.” The album was a huge hit in the UK upon its release in 2011, and went gold when it was released in the US in early 2012.
